2000 302 performace parts

exp,
I've had a 1990 mustang since 93, all my friends have them and i live 15 mins from 2 shops tand 45 mins. from another,t hat get plenty of fastfords and 5.0 magazine coverage, 30 horses at the rear wheels is insane, it's more like 10. without heads. A mustang with gt40x heads (100 times better than gt40p) e cam ,real gt40 intake, and the necessary fuel items, bags between 295 and 305 at the rear wheels, this is not opinion, it is a fact. Any shop will tell you it's a combination that makes a cam work, not the cam by itself.

If you had the heads and the rest of the work and added the cam, 30 is right on the money. Make a few phone calls you will see.

Ok I do I agree that swapping in the cam alone won't net you that kind of power. A few that I have seen already had work done, and then the cam was swapped in and chip was tuned on a dyno after the cam swap and gain 30rwhp from adding the cam. But you are right, the cam's make that power along with other mods on Stangs, adding the cam alone most likely wouldn't net you 30rwhp by itself.

I should have made that clearer, it sounded like I was saying "cam swap" with no other mods, my bad.

Swapping in an e303 cam on an Explorer 5.0 will drop your time by almost a full second, that kids Mounty proved it to me. Ran mid to high 15's with the mods he had on it, swapped in the cam and bam, 14.7** at the strip. The cam didn't drop it to 14.7 itself, only after the mods, so I think were on the same level now and understand each other now lol.

Seems to be, that we are on the same level. Takes an hour through the message board to convey thoughts that would of only taken a minute in person. It's funny all that dubb wanted was some simple advice and we all turned it into a cam debate.

ill agree, the E303 would not be by first choice for a cam. in fact, it wasnt. i have a monster dual pattern Comp Cams blower/nitrous cam laying in my garage right now. just waiting on more $$$ for heads and blower so i can do it all at once. you cant really compare cams between 'stang and X for 2 reasons...

1- the Explorer weighs anywere from 4200-4600 lbs. its also gonna have an auto tranny. you can get a better overall "street" performance out of a smaller cam, such as the E303 on the X because it needs more low-mid than top end unless you are building something with monster hp. this doesnt matter on the stang, because you will more than likely have a manual, or at least a good torque converter, and about 1000lbs less weight.

2- the stock explorer cam is much smaller than the stock 'stang HO cam. this really says alot as to how sh!tty the X cam is, because the HO cam sucks too.

i think im gonna bow out of this discussion gracefully. :D

i have seen lots of engine dyno data on 5 liters in general from a local 5 liter speed shop guru. he also specializes in Gt-40p head porting, and if i posted some of the data ive seen along with bench flow rates that he has done im fairly certain i would be considered a liar by several of you. without actual proof of my claims, i am just some guy on a forum talking trash. i do know that if i replaced my stock X cam with an Ecam or something comparable, along with some good 1.6 roller rockers, i would be quite pissed if i only got 10hp.

everyone have a good day, and remember, active discussions like this lead to thinking things through and building more hp.

in the end, this is all we want, right?;)

James, just to let you know the numbers i speak of are "out of the box numbers" . Of course ported heads will produce significant gains.

The statement good low mid range makes a difference in this conversation, The cam doesn't make much more horsepower, it just makes it in different places.

RealXP8- i agree. BTW- i was argueing my point mainly out of jealousy. i love XP8's, and am secretly mad because you have one and i dont. lol

:D

ok another question.. what is the best shift kit to buy???the one out of explorer express or another one???? thanks for all the help so far... i have so many more questions for everyone.... later

Why Not A 75mm Pro-M?

By the way guys, we carry the Pro-M 75mm MAF. This unit is custom calibrated for your specific mods. It is available in chrome or black. It will compliment your current intake, exhaust, chip combo quite nicely. Our price is $244.95. The chrome one goes great with the Mac Intake.

John, a 75mm would work just fine. a MAS is usually something i just recommend as big as you can get, because if you ever run a blower it becomes the big restrictor. there really is no need for an 80 on an N/A application, a 75 will do fine.

james,
I believe the meter would need recalibration for a supercharger anyway.(or as pro m suggests). 80mm is like tossing 200 bucks in the garbage, it takes a huge amount of horsepower to out flow a 75 on a 5.0.
