Alright so my dad has a 2000 explorer with the 5.0L engine and awd. We are replacing the engine because it started telling knock knock jokes. The old engine is fighting us... we are having real problems getting to one of the bellhousing bolts. Its the one on the passenger side right below the exhaust if your looking threw the wheel well. We can get a wrench on it but dont have room to turn the wrench... anyone have any ideas for us?

extensions

I don't know about the V8 but on my V6 I removed the bolts using multiple extensions and wobble joints working from under the vehicle and above or below the exhaust system. The total length of my extensions was about two feet.

we were going to try that but it didn't look like we would be able to get the socket and extensions past the transmission lines running threw there...

I used a box wrench that I heated up and bent so it would clear all the obstructions. You can only move it a little at a time, but it's doable. If you don't want to bend a good wrench, buy a cheap one and bend it. Worked for me. Had my engine out once and my trans out after that. Good luck!

thanks, yea we ended up mutilating a wrench lol
