2000 Eddie Bauer
Hello
I have a 2000 Eddie Bauer edition

It was running decent up until recently when I lost the key and had a new one made (by a friend who thinks he knows what he's doing). After less than a month with the new key, the windows stopped working, a week later, the windshield wipers stopped, then the windows worked for a day, then the interior lights stopped, then the lights started working again. Some other elctronics stopped workign too, for at least a day or two. This went on for a few weeks,. Now, the windows won't work, it won't start and the alarm (horn) stays on all the time. I tried disconnecting the battery overnight, then touching the battery leads together for 30s, but the alarm still stays on. Then I tried reconnecting the battery, putting the car in Drive, then Park. Still won't start and the alarm stays on.

This is a stock Exploder.

FYI - I have a friend who is helping, and he knows how to use a meter, read a schematic, as he's a BSEE and a Network Engineer.

Where is the wiring diagram ?
I found a drivers door Switch diagram. It is not that easy to decipher, yet.

How do I disconnect the horn so I can troubleshoot ? Mini-fuse 10 ? Where is the horn ? That little square box on the drivers side behind the bumper ? it doesn't seem to vibrate when the horn is on. Can't seem to locate it.

Why am I reading ground on ALL (besides door locks) the pins on the back of the drivers side window switch unit ? Anyone know what I should be reading with a meter on the back of the switch unit ?

Do the windows and wipers go thru the computer ?

Which electronics goes thru the computer ? All ? Some ?

Who's dumb idea was it to put a computer in a car ?

I'd be willing to PAY to get this thing fixed but no one seems to know what to do here in the middle of nowhere TN..Anyone near Cookeville ?

Can I post a phone # here ? I have no Internet at home and a phone call would make this easier.

I'm wondering if your problem isn't GEM related (General Electronic Module). I don't know that it explains everything you are experiencing, but the GEM controls all kinds of stuff. A bad ignition key could only prevent starting as far as I know.

FYI
I tricked the alarm into believing it wass not beign stolen :)
Had to lock, unlock, open and close doors in random orders.

The key(proper programmed) is all that is needed to disable the stock alarm. Non-stock alarms will all be different. If it's stock then there should be a key fob, and the red button will set it off, or disable it if it goes off.

The windows all run from one power and one ground wire, just one. Those two run into the LF door, the large black is ground, and the blue/black wire is the only power to the windows. Those run through he door jamb, and they can and do get cut over the years. Check that blue/black wire first for 12v.

koda is right about the GEM, it controls a lot of things, including the lights.
