2000 explorer xls temp gauge not reading

i have a 2000 explorer xls and the problem i have. is that the temp gauge barley gets abouve the first line on the guage. and i have plenty of heat . wondering if anyone knows the problem. could it be the termostat i dont know . someone please help me please

Hook up an OBD II scanner and take a look at the coolant temp. If this is ok, its probably the gauge itseld' I have had to replace mine ( on a '99 ).
