Just got a 2000 4x4 with 150,000 miles. Two issues I am trying to figure. The pu will start fine but dies unless I idle it up abouve 3000 rpm for 30 seconds or so, then it runs fine. My first thought is choke issues, but not sure. Second, It has a 4wd switch inside but the dash lite does not come on and the front wheels will not pull. Any thoughts?

Idle problem could possibly be the idle air control (IAC) valve. It's a little shiny part mounted to the throttle body. The IAC valve is only $45 or so from NAPA, and it's just two bolts and a plug. Is the check engine light on? What engine do you have?
The 4x4 problem is common. Most likely the 4x4 shift motor in the transfer case is bad. You can test the wiring, and remove it and clean it to see if it works. Check out this post at offroadrangers.com

My total knowledge at this point is that the engine is under the hood... Sorry for the lack of info.
Sitting at a desk, wishing I was working on the truck. Will check this evening at home. Thanks for the reply.
