I have a 2000 Sport, and yesterday the driver's door started acting up. When I try and shut it with normal force, it hits the latch and "bounces" back without connecting at all. I tried shutting it with different amounts of force, and the only thing that works is to barely push it shut - even then it's hit or miss. I wasn't *that* worried until the door opened up while I was driving today! Any suggestions?

Check the latch in the door. Usually ford has a double set of latches that rotate into place around the bolt on the door jamb. I bet one or both of them got rotated into the locked position and won't allow the door to close. Just use your finger or a screw driver to open them again.

Hope this helps.

The double latches aren't closed...it's as though when the door is shut with any force at all, they wrap around the bolt but don't lock into place - they just pop back open again.

It sounds like one or more of the linkages inside the door may have popped off and wedged into an inopportune position. Look at the linkages from whatever the last handle was you used to upen the door the last time it was successfully closed (i.e. the inside if you got out, outside if you were getting in). You'll have to pull the interior trim panel off to do so.

The Striker maybe. The Part on the car body, did the Plastic piece come off the Striker?
