Hi guys,

I just bought a 2000 Explorer on Ebay about a month ago. It has 107 000 miles on it. I checked out it's history on carfax and there were no issues reported.

Anyways, I just had the rear brakes replaced and the front rotors resurfaced. About 2 weeks ago the car began to have problems starting up when I left it for a few hours. Then I would drive it and it would startup easily with no problem. Could it be that the battery needs to be replaced? Could something be draining the battery?

This will be my daily for the winter so I need to get this fixed or else I will have to drive the Cobra in the winter! :(

Does your X sound like its having a hard time when your cranking the starter? If so it could be a battery issue. But if it's cranking fine just taking longer to start my guess would be your lossing fuel pressure after it sits for a while. Which may be a fuel line and/or fuel regulater issue.

could just need a new battery, sounds like it... If it is, I'd suggest going to a sealed optima or deep cycle type battery, I've ran them for years now and dont regret paying the little more $$$ for them.

Battery could just have a dead cell or few....

thanks for the advice! It could be either of those two problems I guess. I just came back from the gym. After I arrived there I switched the car off and tried to start it up. It started immediately! Then when I finished my workout (1 hour later) and tried to start it up it took 3 tries. It is starting to become predictable and getting worse after it sits for a while.

this is what you need to do let the truck sit for a while like an hour or so when it has trouble starting turn the key to on don't start it turn the key off cycle it a couple times then start it if it starts like it should then its a fuel problem i would start at the fuel filter odds are that it hasn't been replaced before
