1995 Explorer XLT
I have a 1995 Explorer XLT 4x4 completely stock, 103k miles. Yesterday it would not start. When I turn the switch on, I do not hear the fuel pump buzz. I sprayed starting fluid in the intake and it hit and ran for a second, so I am not getting fuel. I swapped relays, no dice. I used a test light, and unplugged the fuel pump wires on top of the tank, and could not get the test light to come on, so I don't think I am getting juice back to my fuel pump. Any ideas ?? Back in the spring, I had the IAC replaced because it wouldn't start then. Thanks for any help

If you already checked the fuse.. I'd check the ground connection on the actual pump. The connection can get pretty dirty. You could also check the power wire all the way down to the pump for any breaks or bad connections. Good luck and welcome to the board!

Testing the wires at the pump takes two people. When you turn the key to the run position the pump will only run for 2 sec. max. Therefore, unless you are under the vehicle with the test light and have someone turning on the key for you, you won't have power at the pump.

Did that. Thanks anyway!! :)

Power goes from the fuel pump fuse, to the relay, to the inertia switch, to the fuel pump. The power wire at the fuel pump should be pink/black and the return is black. Measure the resistance between these two, should be only a couple of ohms. Measure black wire of car to ground, should be very low. You can also run the pump wires directly to the battery to see if it runs. Normal current is about 5 amps.
