2000 XLT 4.0 won't idle & stalls at times

Just a couple time this week, the engine will start but will not idle and stalls. It runs fine if I hold the accelerator peddle to keep RPM’s up, but will not idle on it's own. Next day, it is fine and runs like normal. Then another day it will happen again. It has 71K miles.

When it gives you trouble again......go out and tap on the idle air control valve. Get back in and I bet it will start. They start to stick somtimes when the get old. It runs when you hold the axcellerator because you are doing the idle air control valves job in a way.

I have essentially the same problem. Where is the IAC valve located?

It is bolted on to you TB by 2 bolts. There is also an electrical conector. You may have a plastic cover to remove so you can see it.
