91 explorer won't idle, stalls out.

before this truck was parked it would start right up and idle for a few minutes then sputter and die, wait a few minutes and it would start back up.. my friend got frustrated throwing parts at it so he parked it. my ex-son-in-law has an explorer just like it and he started robbing parts off of it. minor parts like blower fan, crank sensor, starter. sparkplugs wires. . when my friend asked about it he said i thought the parts were free and i needed them. don't i will pay you back, right and i will crap in my hand to see which one fills faster. i got some of the bad parts back but no nuts or bolts or screws so i guess it isd off to pull and save to try to figure out what goes where. i also need to get a shop manual for a 91 explore Eddie Baur edition. i wanted to drive it this winter but not yet. my friend was nice enough to have the front end rebuilt at les Schwab before he parked it and gave it to me. oh yeah i checked my front brakes because they felt funny and he took my brand new brake pads. it all happened while he was married to my daughter now they are divorced thank God.

Ford OBD/OBD2 Codes – TroubleCodes.net

Start with the codes, their not much compared to later versions but they do give clues. These trucks are kinda simple but just complicated enough that throwing parts at the problem gets stupidly expensive.

The great thing about this site is that almost every problem you 'Might' have, someone else has already had and posted a fix.

Sometimes it is easy to search this site and sometimes you need to use Google to do a Site Search for what you need.

the explorer starts up and runs fine for about a minute then sputters and dies. just picked up a code reader the other day. tried thje trick of a paper clip but couldn't make sense of it. as soon as i get a battery and ends to the cables, yes he took those to, i can get codes. i am thinking fuel pump. i changed the gas filter and air cleaner and oil filter, now i just need spark plugs and wires. and just noticed the ecm is missing.
