Just clicked over 70000 miles today and our 2000 XLT AWD with auto trans has started to kick back at 40-45 mph when coasting between 3rd and 4th gear. After reading through a few postings indicating possible transfer case or transmission issues, just looking for some suggestions from the Explorer experts.

I am at 99k miles and I just recently got the tranny flushed and about 300 miles ago I added a secondary tranny filter which smoothed out the shifts a bit. Still not as good as I hoped it would be.

Do you run larger tires than stock?

I run 32" tires and every so often I have a bump 40-50mph due to the torque converter and OD trying to keep the RPMs near where they should be.

I normally run with the OD off and leave it that way until I get on a highway or road where I will be going 60MPH+.

Just running on stock Goodyear tires Dog. You are right about running with the OD off...a little less kick, but something still not quite right. My local mechanic asked me about this problem before just last week.
