2001 Explorer-Running out of ideas

This is for driveability issue. The fuse powers a number of items including the cam position sensor and some trans controls along with the front O2 sensors. However when it is out, you wont get a CEL. Instead what you get is the engine starts and revs in park/neutral just fine. Put it in gear and it may die, have to feather the gas to get moving. Once above maybe 15 mph it will accelerate and drive, but bucks and shudders if you give it gas.

If its out, most times it blows from a worn wire on a O2 sensor intermittenly touching a heat shield or frame making it very frustrating to find the source of the short.

Interesting, I will try that for sure.
As for the door ajar light, I know why it's on; someone tried to break into the vehicle before I purchased it, and screwed up the driver's side door. it catches just fine, but it doesn't close completely and I'm assuming it's not fully activating the switch.
But I'm speaking mainly of the headlights. They are on as soon as you turn the truck on and they stay on. They will usually go off after the truck has sat for about 5 minutes, but sometimes they stay on until you notice. Then you can usually get them to go off by cycling the light switch a couple of times.

See, when I bought the truck it had a shudder, but according to the guy who I bought it from (or should I say his mechanic) it was caused by the timing tensioners. Once I changed the front guide it did get better for awhile it seems, but it was always there. I figured that the intake gasket vacuum leak was the culprit, and it does idle a lot better since the replacement, but as soon as you gas it then it seems to hunt idle again.

The headlights is very likley the autolamps slide in the mirror. Just unplug the wire from the back of the mirror for right now to disable. If lights are out, thats the issue. Has no effect on any other systems. You will need to get a new mirror with the autolamp control if you want to fix it as they are only available as a unit.

Also re-check the spark plug wire order if you havent already.

Older thread, but thought I'd throw in a thought... Check for a broken ground wire in the boot between the driver's door and the vehicle. Fixed all kinds of issues for me, and only cost about $5. Doors lock, windows work, rear wiper works, lights go off, all kinds of things...
