my 01 explorer sport is stuck in 4wd low. what voltage should there be at the switch from the control module? I only have 4.5 volts at the switch and no voltage leaving the switch back to the control module. any help would be great.

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes, then reconnect. SOmetimes, this forces the shift motor to revert back to the the default position. FWIW, try not to use 4LO if you can get away with 4HI.

I disconnected the battery but no luck. any idea what voltage should be at the switch?

I dont have a clue as to what the voltage should be. But when you disconnected the battery, was the vehicle parked on level ground? I ask because the T-case should not have any pressure from the driveline during the shift process from LO to HI range (which is why we normally put the transmission in Neutral with the foot brake or parking brake on).
