2001 Sport trac 4wd reverse problem

Have a 2001 4wd. It will go into 2,4h,4low with no problem. When you put it into reverse it acts as though it is neutral. We just had a problem of it being stuck in 4low and I went under and changed it back to 2w drive by hand. We have not had any trouble since with it sticking. Is this a transmission problem or a problem with the transmission range sensor? I have had no engine lights come on for this problem. Thanks for any help.

It could be the transfer case module they go out. If you want to help with the sticking problem due what I do. Every month I run both trucks in 4x4 for about 5 mins to 10 mins. Just around town at about 25 - 30 mph. This helps keep everything lubed up.
