2001 Sport Trac Steering Fluid Leak

Help, just got the dealer call that my leak is from the right end of the rack and I need a whole new Rack and Pinion Gear replacement at $840 plus $59 to realign? Does this seem right? (Still love my ST!)

Sounds high for a rack and pinion.... If you don't mind a long-haul to Monroe, a guy I work with runs a shop in the evenings with his dad (both Ford employees) and he may be able to do it for a bit cheaper. I can give him your contact info if you're interested.

My guess is that the stealership wants probably $500-$600 for the rack and pinion, and about two to three hours in labor, plus the alignment. Call around and I'm sure you can find a good shop to do it for less.
