It started with the infamous problem from shifting from 2nd to 3rd in the OD automactic trans.

After reading most of the post here, I went the route of replacing all 6 solenoids first, after replacing them went to test drive and that corrected the shifting problem,(it just shifts harder between gears now),
But the OD light starts blinking a few seconds after I start the engine.

Was told by the guy that owns 800700 tran to unplug the 16 pin connector to the tran and disconnect the battery and that should reset the od from blinking, That did not work....

Went to AutoZone and they tested it and it Passed, (but he was young and I don't know if he truly tested the tran or just the Engine) So I don't know if that is an accurated assesment.

According to the Manual the Trans takes 10 qt of Fluid...

When filling I put 5 qts in first than started the engine and put additional qt after every few minutes, when I get to the 8 qt mark it would overflow from the top of the Tranny ( I guess its an overflow valve)....

My question is when dropping the tran pan originally, does all the fluid come out or does some stay inside the tran?

Could the blinking light be caused by being overfilled? I have tried reading the dip stick while idling in park and can't seem to get a true reading.
When I put just 5 qts in the first time its showed that in was over the fill mark. But the dipstick always looks coated with fluid its not like a oil dipstick were you can always see a clear mark.

Any advice would be appreciated....

Thanks,
Charlie

Yeah there is still fluid in the torque converter. Not sure on how much but its considerable. Could be caused by overfilling. not sure. Mine blinked when I first bought it. Had a tranny flush at NTB and hasnt came back.

If you are 2-wheel drive, the pan only holds about 4 quarts, I believe. Did you get a lot more fluid out when you changed the solenoids?

With the pan dropped there is still fluid held in the torque converter, as well as in the line to the auxiliary transmission cooler.

Here is what I would do, If I were you:
Step 1 -- get a fluid extractor and suck as much fluid as I could out via the dipstick.
Step 2 -- start her up and run her briefly, running it through the gears -- so that any other excess fluid will make it through the system and into the pan.
Step 3 -- drop the pan again.

Then, start with just 4 quarts and don't add any until you get it warm and run through the gears.
