Howdy!
I'm currently researching everything I can possibly learn about doing a 4bt swap into my 2001 ST 4x4. I HATE the 4.0l V6 in it. It had a loose tensioner pully when I bought it and had a rattling sound. I replaced it and the sound has gone away but I'm worried about wear it's caused while it was unaddressed with previous owners. Anyway, this problem along with the shotty fuel mileage and poor towing capacity are why I have decided to do a swap. I've chosen the 4bt because it is a completely mechanical motor, as I do not want to venture into the bottomless pit of PCM issues and because I've always wanted a diesel truck. I'd much rather spend $10k making my ST a dream "truck" instead of spending $43k on a new Colorado or Ranger diesel. I'm not worried about emissions or registration as the truck is 7 years away from being a "classic" and will be exempt from emissions standards anyway. I've read and reread a thread by a member in PA named "qumanchew" who did this almost exact swap in his 2003 ST. I've tried reaching out to him for guidance but I can't seem to get a hold of him. Does anyone know how I can reach him or does anyone have resources to help in this endeavor? I have 2 year orders to Guantanamo Bay so I have plenty of time to pool together the knowledge and funds necessary to plan this swap properly. Hopefully the actual swap won't take more than 6-10 months depending on the condition of the motor I buy. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
