Hi;
I have a 2001 Lincoln Town Car 4.6L 101,000 miles.
I was driving down the highway around 60-65 MPH and all of a sudden it was like the transmission went into neutral. I made my way over to the breakdown lane and when I got to around 35-40 MPH I had power from the trans to the rear wheels again.

I moved along and as soon as the trans cycled through
(1-2 to Drive) Drive would be like putting the trans in neutral. I only can use 1 & 2. Could you tell me what the problem may be?
I have done everything with cars but I never fiddled with an automatic transmission.
I thought it just might need some trans fluid but it was fine.
Any information will be very much appreciated.
Thank you;
Rick

Thanks BrooklynBay for the info, I appreciate it.

I did call a place in my vacinity and they did mention they would need to run it through a scan. They said it could be a servo, electrical, a pump, a switch etc.

From rebuilding engines, replacing rear ends to manual transmissions clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, bellhousing etc. etc.
Unfortunately I never fiddled around with automatic transmissions.

I wish I had some idea what the problem might be. Going in blindfolded sometimes people get raked over the coals.:mad:
I'm just going to see what happens on this one I guess.

Take care and Thanks again.
Happy New Year.

Rick
