2000 Town Car / Fan Problem

Please help if you can.

My Dads friend Don has a 2K Town Car. The A/C blower quit so I said bring it over and Ill check it out.

I disconnected the large 2-Wire Connector to the fan, un-bolted the fan from the duct work, turned it and check resistance, checked ok so I put 12V directly to the motor, it spun. Next I check the output from the fan control module, with the system on max I got over 12V. So I put it back together and it worked, for 1 day.

I have the car in my garage now. I pulled the fan connector, plugged it back in and it works........



Im currently pulling the wheel well to get the blower out.

One thing I did find is a crummy looking gang connector over the fan motor. The male spades on half of it are white corroded looking. How can I clean that up? I was thinking Coke or Pepsi. That the only problem I see right now and since I did disturb it to get at the motor connector Im thinking it could be just that.

Another friend suggested the Fan control module is a big problem with these cars. But I didnt touch that, just the fan area so Im just at a loss right now.

Clean the plug with electrical contact cleaner, then use an anti oxidant cream. Sometimes the internal brushes in the motor get worn with time, so if cleaning it doesn't help, then you should replace it. It can't be the module if you see 12 volts on the connector.

The problem looks like the control module. I almost have it out. Only about 9 or 10 hours wasted so far. New module is standing by.
Replacing the trans would be less work.

I hate this Lincoln.

Did I mention how much I hate this Lincoln?

Where did you get the new module? Is there a money back guarantee if it's not the problem? Most electrical items don't have a return policy.

Got it at the local Ford Dealer.

Talked to the service guys at two dealers and they said, based on what its doing 99.5% chance its the control module. I removed the fan, its perfect. Due to the amount of labor involved to remove that control module its getting replaced regardless.

Time will tell. I should have it back together some time tomorrow. Oh and I do have pictures. Wait till you see where they jammed this thing in.

Yep, the blower speed controller on the heater box by the pass side valve cover is always the problem. They are a ***** to replace but can be done with heater hose removal ans some swivel sockets. I replace at least one a week here.

Finished the job today.

Holey Monkeys, that thing is a bear to replace.
Never again, that was just a favor job.
