2001 XLT
Got a 2001 XLT 115000 miles. Bought it a few months ago. Noticed that shifting is a little delayed. I drive down the road 1st and 2nd gear seem to be fine, then when I am going about 45mph to 50mph the motor takes longer to shift, reving up around 3,000rpm, and then there is a "delayed shift" into 3rd. Is this normal? My tranny shot? After that everything is okay. The fluid look new. Looking that the other threads, I don't know if it is the EPC or if I should drop the pan, and change the filter. If it could be the EPC (electronic pressure control) where do I get one, how much, and how much time? Any advice???
Thanks.

My 2000 XLT does this also but it is random when it does it, my OD light started flashing so I took it to a local trusted transmission shop who read the code. mine was 2nd gear out of sync or something. my transmission guy (owner of the company) said the 2nd gear selonoid was probably going out I have 137000 miles on it at this point. he said he could replace the selonoid but there was other things he would like to replace due to the mileage. One good thing about having a relationship with the mechanic is what he told me next. You problem will probably go away if you take the car out of overdrive on hills and while pulling, try it and see and let me know. I did and no problems (I drive the same route everyday and it happens on the same hill). I reported back to him and he said turn the overdrive off when climbing hills, when the transmission dies he will rebuild could be in a year may never need it if I take it out of overdrive. the problems are the selonoids leak or something (the tranny is computer controlled by pressures internal) so I bet you've got a selonoid bad like my guy suspects I have, I would go have it read, my OD would stop flashing if I turned the vehicle off. so have it checked just in case.

there is a thread about the selonoids somewhere.

Thanks I'll have it checked out. If I wanted to replace the solinoid where is it and how hard is it to replace? Is it worth it? I only drive it 20 miles a day. Live close to work. Just it a little annoying.

There is a thread on transmissions that has great pictures and explanations on how to replace the selonoids. It doesn't look terribly difficult (I read the entire thread when mine started messing up), the Selonoids are inside the tranny, but I don't have the tools or garage space to dissassemble a tranny so I will let my friendly neighborhood tranny shop fix mine when it gets bad. Do a search on O/D light flashing and you should get the tread pretty easily.

I wish I could be more help. but there is a wealth of information in that thread.
