I have a 2002 4.0 explorer that i am replacing the heads on and must have broken one of the cam chain guides removing my old heads.the passanger side one (rear) how difficult is it to replace this part?do i have to remove the block from the bell housing now or can i do it while the motor is still in the car? have the heads and everything else off the top of the block now. if it was not broken i would have just slapped the heads back on the block and be driving it.
than you in advance for helping this rookie (or fool depending on difficulty)out

must separate engine & trans

Unfortunately, to remove the right/rear cassette guide assembly the transmission and the engine must be separated. Most members pull the engine but a few with access to a vehicle hydraulic lift have pulled the transmission. See my helpful threads for more information on removing and replacing the cassette.

I have the same problem. Did you ever figure it out

yes i figured it out. pulled the engine and put the engine back together on a engine stand then put it back in the car. to get to the rear cam chain tensioner cassett it was just a torx screw in the back of the motor but it had to e seperated from the bell housing. it was easy with the motor on a engine stand. that was the way to go
