Hello and Help

My first post

I have a 2002 Explorer that my wife drives. The other day, she got stuck in mud. Went to press the 4WD high and low button, nothing happened, no lights, did not engage into 4wd. I checked the fuse under the dash for the 4wd, and looked OK.

Any help out there?? Car has been running fine, and 4wd has been OK up to this point.

Thanks

Yep, I also tried it and nothing. Usually if not in neutral, the light will blink until you put in N. Nothing at all

have you shifted it into 4lo without shifting the tranny to neutral before?? if so then you probably screwed up something. I would recommend seeing your nearest Ford dealer or "trusted" mechanic on that.

hmm the shift motor on the transfer case may be dirty and need cleaning....there is a thread around here that shows how to do that...also since it is so new if its still under warranty take that bad boy into the stealership

That is NOT the problem. The shift from AUTO to HI is not dependant from the shift motor.

They're having problems with the 4X4 modules. We've had our's replaced once already. I know someone who is on their third. You should have no problem taking it to the dealer and having them replace it. Defenetly stop at the dealer.

What is the cost of a 4x4 module replacement?

If your vehicle is under warranty it shouldn't be much or free of cost

What if it isn;t under warranty??

How many miles do you have on it?

ok you don't have extended warranty i take it.............and sorry to say I myself wouldnt know the cost of replacement. Whats it worth for you to have a 4WD system??

I'd try to get them to replace it for free. Tell them you've heard about this before.

It might be a recall. I'm not sure.

dman726749- Sorry if my post came off mean. Didn't realize it sounded bad until now :)
