2002 Ford Explorer
Hey Guys, new to forum. I have a 2002 explorer 6cyl. We just bought this a few months ago and we are having problems with starting. It has been getting worse over the last couple of weeks. Sometimes it just cranks and cranks but will not start. So far I have checked the fuel pressure = 67psi. alt putting out about 13.8V with everything accesories/lights on. It is ok once it finally starts and is running. It also has a new battery. The only thing visually that I can see is the tensioner bounces a lot and probably needs to be replaced, but I don't think it has anything to do with the startup. My next guess would be to check the starter. Did anyone have a similar problem and how to fix it. Oh yeah, the fuel press. holds at 65psi for at least 15-20 min. Any ideas, I am stumped. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem with my 2001 Sport Trac. We even replaced the fuel filter and still have the problem. I'm afraid its going to be the fuel pump ($$$$). Anyone else have some suggestions or imput on this issue?

unplug the maf and try to start it, mine was doing the same thing, I cleaned MAF, IAC, TB no luck, unpluged the MAF and it started right up and ran great, so yesterday I replaced it with a known good one and it starts right up on the first try

I don't know what the MAF is; sorry.

I was looking into fuel pumps at an online auto parts store and they have several and some look different and one is twice as expensive. When I asked about this I was told to find out if my Sport Trac has 1 tube port or 2 tube ports. Does anyone know the answer?

Thanks,

Erin
