My ex has been acting funny, could never really figure out what I thought it was, just that my transmission was probably on the way out but then I realized I THINK what it is doing is kicking in and out of 4 high all on its own. No lights come on for this.

What would the easiest way to disable 4wd be to test this?

Also, in case I am wrong, it has a hum at highway speeds and then will "kick out" it will do this several times in a trip. then sometimes not do it at all.
When its really in a bad mood it will actually kick a little whenever I let off of the accelerator, but that almost feels different than the above issue which I want to isolate first.

So....i would like to disable 4wd all together to test it out.

Are all your tires very close to same outside diameter? This will cause the auto 4x4 to kick in and out if they aren't. Front and rear tires have to have exact same wear or it can cause this.

There is a few threads talking about some brown wire that you can break circuit on so if you haven't searched for that look up topics on brown wire mod

I did the brown wire mod about 2 weeks ago. I cut into the wiring harness ABOVE the connector so I didn't have to buy a connector set to attach 2 wires. It works as advertised. The 4 wheel computer can do any strange thing it wants to do and no signal gets to the clutch in the transfer case. No more strange thumps while I'm leaving the gas station or trying to turn tightly into a parking space. If I was sure the front wheels would stay on the car, I would remove the transfer case, the front differential, and the two front drive shafts.

Not being sure about that, I am studying the wiring harness to see if I can remove the accessory delay relay and the battery saver relay by teaching the car not to run any accessories after the ignition key is turned off.
