My 2003 Explorer Eddie Bauer 4.0L jolts in and out of 4wd when givin at least 25% throttle. My dealer says it is because i put new tires on the back and havint yet changed the front ones. The tread does not look like it's that much off to me but i'm still not sure. I just want to make sure there not simply tryin to sell me some tires and labor. They told me this without even looking at the truck.

Any input would be appreciated, Thanks

I think your dealer is probably right. Did it start right as soon as you put the new tires on? That would be a dead giveaway.

these trucks have a very sensitive 4wd. i assume you have auto / 4hi/4lo?

the 2 new tires you put on the back are probibly causing the computer to think the wheels are slipping because of the slightly bigger size because of the new treads. that will cause it to kick into 4wd. whenever you get new tires for these vehicles you must change all 4. if one or 2 are not the same size then you wont get the same rotation, even if it is a little bit, that will cause the computer to think you have wheel slippage, whick will engage the auto 4wd.

hope that helps
