My daughter's 2002 has had some very weird electrical issues over the last few years. The most recent is with the power mirrors. They are not working and I started checking fuses. Looking at the owners manual it was hard to determine which fuse I should check...so I assumed it was fuse 26 a 7.5 volt in drivers side fuse box. I pulled it and the fuse was fine put it back in and mirrors still did not work. Just in case I had pulled the wrong fuse for giggles I pulled 27 also a 7.5 volt fuse it to was fine,,,but lo and behold the mirrors worked with 27 pulled out. I put it back in and they stop working.

I know..leave 27 out right? well you can't shift out of park if 27 isn't installed. Book says i27 controls the brake interlock circuit

I have not checked the wires thru the door which I assume is a likely cause.. but is this weird or what? Anybody ever have a similar situation or have any other ideas of what I can look at?

Hey Spit,

My wife and i just got an 02 XLS and the SAME thing is wrong with ours. I checked the fuses as well, but I can't seem to track down the problem. For now, I'm just setting them to where I can see and leaving them...but it's a pain in the butt. I'm with Spit on this..has anyone else had this issue, or is there a fix we're overlooking?

Thanks in advance!
Matt

The owners manual seemed to say that the correctr fuse is # 16 and it checked good too. I was only pulling 26 or 27 beacuse the owners manual said something about one of them having mirror circuits on them..but I think 16 is the correct one. I am going to open up the door and get into the rubber boot and look for broken wires. Seems like this what it's going to be

Same issue here with our 2003. Mirrors havnt worked in years, fuses all good. Since I choose my battles wisely I chose to leave this one alone. But it would be nice to know what the deal is with these. This is definitely an issue with many explorers.

Had same issue with my 03 and it turned out to be the mirror adjuster switch itself mounted on the drivers door.

Went onto ebay and got a used switch for $5 and it fixed the problem for me.
