hello all, I have a 2002 ford explorer with the 4.0 SOHC Non Flex fuel 4x4.

I ran out of gas the other day and had to push it to the pump. I got $20 in gas and about 5 miles later the vehicle lost power to all instruments and engine. it just turned over and would not fire. it fired up after about 1 minute but it went dead again in a couple of miles.

I noticed that the fuel pump woks fine and you can hear it until the engine dies. once it dies the pump wont turn on for about 60 seconds then you can hear it.

It is throwing the following codes:

P0174-Bank 2 system too lean
P0231-Fuel pump secondary voltage too low
P0442-Evaporator Vacuum Leak

this is my only transportation and need to get it going asap.

can anyone point me to what might be the issue? seems like there might be a vacuum leak and its shutting the pump off. just not sure where to start looking or how to test.

thanks.

Matt, Just some suggestions from a non mechanic. Check your fuel pump reset switch. Probably, not an issue but it may be intermittent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDfcSAFri_Q

It may be a clogged fuel filter or injectors. Being that you ran all the gas out some debris may have gone with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUUgR94drxg

I would put some Seafoam in with gas and in the vacuum hose. That stuff is amazing.

If you don't have it already, I would suggest downloading Forscan.org software (free). It gives a lot of good information.
