Hi I have a 2002 Explorer XLT. I have only had it for a month and the O/D off light has starting flashing. I have not noticed any problems with the tranny. It shifts without any hesitation. I did some research on the O/D off light flashing and found that i should get an update for the explorer. I took it to the dealership to get the update and they tell me that the vehicle didnt say it needed the update and that the tranny will only last a few days more. I asked them how it could last only a few days when i have problems other than a flashing O/D off light? They said that they pulled these codes from the vehicle P0732, P0735, P0775 and P1783. I asked how they could get more codes than me when i put it on the OBD scanner and they claimed that their scanner is better. What i would like to know is if i should believe them in that i need a new tranny or could it be a solenoid or sensor or wiring that is the real problem? Please help me with this as i upgraded to the 02 from a 97 XLT to save me from having to spend alot of money on a vehicle. Thanks so much. Stephanie

The solenoid blocks on the 5R55W tend to act up around 60K miles. These transmissions have problems with the servo bores wearing down, and with bands breaking. Not all scanners are capable of reading every kind of code, so it's possible that their scanner could read more codes than your scanner. What brand are both scanners?

The scanner that i have is an actron one. I do not know what the dealer had. At this point i am looking to find out how to fix the so called problem, if there is one. Like i said before i have no problems with the transmission other than the flashing O/D off light. It shifts without any problems. I know that the fluid needs to be changed so if there is a part that i should replace i would like to do it at the same time. I need some advice on what that part may be. Thanks.

Oh and by the way i do not need more negativity as i can do that myself and i have seen those sights already and i did not like the way everybody was bashing Ford. I believe that it is also caused by how you drive and if you drive badly then things will break easily. That said i know that i am a good driver and am only getting someone else's problems, unfortunately.
