I have a 2002 Ford Explorer V8 and wanted to know what the stock spark plugs are supposed to be on the engine?

for best results grab some ford motorcraft plugs. DO NOT USE BOSCH!!! they have a bad habbit of shooting from the cylenderheads and ruining your engine/poking holes in your hood.

Any plug can do that if improperly installed. The issues with the bosch plug is the platinum coating burning off.

Be careful. These are aluminum heads. Buy a torque wrench and properly torque your plugs. Also, use anti-sieze. Motocraft platinum (double platinum??) are the OEM plugs. I bought my plugs from a dealer parts counter to ensure they were the original. They don't gouge you too badly. Someone here might be able to chime in on the proper torque spec.

I repeat: Don't treat this like a simple iron head "good-n-tight" job. Use the proper tool for the job.

true, but bosch are notorius for that, mine were thread locked and torqued propperly and i shot 3 in less than a year. 18 ft/lbs is the propper torque spec, use a 3/8th torque wrench for propper torque spec, 1/2 inch's are only realy accurate in the higher torques.

This just amazes me that the plug can shoot out when the coil is bolted in on top of it... My dad just had to have one done, it was done using the insert without removing the head. The plug was still in the hole held in by the coil, but had pulled out.

its deffinately an experience, i just about shat myself the first time it happened, there was a loud pop, followed by the truck flashing warning lights and beeping at me, and a TERRIBLE idle... broke the mount off of a coil pack, found the coil infront of my battery with the spark plug still attached.. lol, my next words were iconic.. "well..thats no good.."
