I absolutely LOVE my Explorer. :) I have since I laid eyes on her the day I saw her at the dealership 4 years ago. Lately though she has has some major issues and she's costing me MAJOR dollars!

Just last week I had a rear wheel bearing replaced for $285.
Once it was up on the lift I had to replace BOTH springs to the tune of $475.

Literally 6 days later here are my new issues:

Passenger side door lock is stuck.
Drivers side auto down window button will not work.
Keypad light is out.
Puddle light is out.
I get the standard 2 beeps when trying to lock the doors.
Dome lights stay on.

I've read these are UNFORTUNATELY standard issues with my beloved Explorer and it sickens me. However, since I've run through the basic ailments of the 2002 year, what else could go wrong?!?! :D

My hubby is going to do try the WD-40 trick and wiggle the wires once we get the door panel off.

Any other hints out there we should be advised of?

This is an AWESOME site and glad to have found it. Keep up all the great help guys!

Have you thought of using the lemon law?

It was a broken wire!

Just wanted to let you all know we solved the problem of most of the drivers side door issues.

Once we took the door panel off (so easy by the way, thanks to others tips out there!) and followed the wiring around as far as we could go, we found that the ground wire was broken. A quick repair and she's good to go again!

I still can't put the window down using the auto down feature but who cares right?

We have noticed that the drivers window has been slowing down lately, not as speedy as she used to be. Anyone else noticed that problem before and/or is it an easy fix?

Take care and Happy Holidays to all. :salute:

Ya, my drivers side window goes slow half way through the cycle. I threw some lube on it and now its back to normal.

S L O W Window

Thanks, I'll have hubby give it a try. What's the worst that can happen! :)

So the ground wire that is probably broken is inside the door, or do you follow the ground through the body and it's under the dash somewhere? If it is in the door, approx. where is it attached, or is it broken in-line?

The wire was severed basically halfway between the door and the body of the car.

We needed to remove the rubber "boot" that is supposed to protect the wires probably for that reason. Once the rubber was removed and the wires exposed we didn't need to look further it was just dangling. Thankfully we didn't need to follow it too far and even more thankfully we didn't need to tear the dash apart. Hope that helps!

"Today the rear passenger wheel stunk to high heaven, burning smell like the brake was getting locked up or whatever else could cause it and it was so hot you couldn't touch it. Back to the garage tomorrow!"

Naturally the dealer said nothing was wrong with it when we took it in. Two weeks later I am driving down the road and the caliper locked up and there was smoke pouring from the tire. Lovely! So I called the dealership and said it is smoking right now and I'll be in immediately. Another $140!

Today the inevitable happened. The driverside window finally gave out. I was having trouble with the auto feature. No biggie. Now I can't get the window up or down.

I LOVE MY FORD!
