Own a late build 2002 Ford Explorer, and after doing some dealer specific tests concluded the control module was shot. 4x4 does nothing; no lights, no switching, no click, auto 4x4 doesnt even work. control module number is 2Cf4-7H473-BD and my Vin is 1FMZU73K2ZC52442. can someone help me find the correct module, possibly directly from the supplier so i dont have to pay $270 from the dealer or $190 from the junk yard?

oh, some other things to mention are; testing the switch showed it was fine, and i used a scan tool to see if the CM was responding, but cant remember the results. I'll try again later this week with the scan tool to see what it told me. oh, and when i try to access the 4x4 CM with the Modis scan tool we have, it says it cant communicate with the module. my shop teacher is a certified Ford technician and he said straight up the module was bad, i did all the tests just to make sure.

Your VIN is one digit short. Assuming that it is should be 1FMZU73K22ZC52442, fordparts.com comes up with p/n: 7E453 (TM-118) which is the exactly the same as the one in mine which I replaced in December, having the exact same symptoms. I bought it from rockauto.com. If you search there for Motorcraft part TM118, it pulls up part number TM152 (but lists {#2C5Z7E453A, TM118} in the description. The price is currently $152.79. If you order from them, be sure to enter the discount code F7720457E701 to get 5% off! It solved my problem.
