EE does sell or at least will soon sell 1-4 inch adjustable coil overs....but the newest explorers will never be a good offroad rig unless you sink major money in it putting solid axles front and rear, and I wouldn't count on these coil overs to make your truck trail ready. It's too bad but the new expo's a cars...but ford doesn't care about us relatively few people of offroad their expo, they want the soccer mommies to be happy. If you want to make a good offroad explorer, the 1st gen is the best bone stock, but the 2nd gens can be built to be just as good. The nice thing about 1st gens is you can do an sas fairly easy. Anyway that's my opinion.

The 02 Sport is IFS/solid rear, there are 2 lifts available that I know of. One is from Trailmaster and one is from Superlift. The Superlift kit is better, but more expensive. Both will give you 4" of lift however. Those are both suspension kits. Performance Accesories now sells a 3" bodylift for the Sport Trac which might work, but I have never installed that kit on any explorers. I have however installed many of the Ranger 3" kits(#883) which fit the 98-02 Sports with minor modification to the front bumper brackets.

Good luck,
Matt

What Trailmaster lift will work for the 02 sport 2wd?

No offence to anyone planning to get a 2002 Explorer, this is just my honest opinion here.

As far as aftermarket goes, you'll be lucky if they even make a grille gaurd for the new Explorers, and if they do, don't expect more than that. You need to bare in mind that they haven't even come out with a suspension lift for the 95-97 Explorers and it doesn't look like they ever will, and the 95-97's are ten times easier to lift than the 2002's will be. The 95-97's have to modify the 98-00 Explorer lifts, and even thoughs lifts have their problems. Don't get me wrong, it's good to be optimistic, but you also have to maintain a level of reality. I know it's hard to grasp the fate our great Explorers have succumb to, they have become grocery getters, and there is little to do to make them otherwise. We were lucky that they even made a lift for the 98-00, they didn't think there was enough demand, and I have to say, there right. Considering most of the people who are buying these lifts attend this site, most of them (and they are few and far between) are spread out between 95-97 owners and 98-00 owners. This lifts aren't selling in a great volume, despite the fact that there is an extra, unanticipated 3 model years purchasing the lifts. Plus, they are expensive.

There is only one reason that lifts came out for the 98-00 Explorers and one reason only. The Ranger. If it were not for the fact that the Explorer and the Ranger carry the same suspension, you would have never seen a lift kit made for the Explorers. Granted, there are a lot of us here, there is still not enough demand, by far. And now with the 4 door Explorer's chassis straying from the Ranger platform, our chances decrease ten fold, simple fact. It is not worth the time or the money, for both the consumer and the manufacturers to have a mass produced lift kit for the 2002 4 door Explorers. But, as long as the Sports and the Sport Tracs share the same suspension with the Ranger (solid rear axle), you will see lift kits for these Explorers.

Sorry for my rambling, I haven't done that for a while! Like I said, this is just my opinion, just saying it to say it, not directed towards anyone or anything (except for maybe Ford!)!
I had beffore I bought my 2002 a 1995 explorer and i was tempted to in fact buy a lift for it. you an buy spindles for the front and use more arched springs for the rear,. and I beoieve it is 3 to 4 inches of lift for a 1995.

that is the whole reasone I bought my 2002 for the much better ride with the new suspension. rides like you are floating on air compared to my sad 1995 suspension.
also the body looks so much better than my 1995 and especially better than the box looking explorers from 1991 to 1994,
also ook at the interior it is so much better than early 90's..plus I have now a 3rd seat which is ione of the top 4 reasons i bought the 2002 the number 1,2 and 3 being looks ride and Price.

my 1995 which i haven;t sold yet is 2wd with 31 inch BF Goodrich All Terrains ko
and i put my 4wd siting next to it and my 2wd sits probably 3 inches higher than the newer 4 wheel Drive. Kinda funny but also i like the lower doors as my wife loves that part easier to get in it.
you would bnever guess which was the 2 wheel drive and which was the 4 wheel drive.
but I am thinking this weekend of getting some new tires for my 2002 same as what i have on my 1995.
31's
I wish the 2002 was 15 inch wheel as i would just switch rims and tires
Oh well.it will look much better with bigger tires on it though.
