Hey Guys,

So I was on the way in this morning and my Explorer started to exhibit missing symptoms and then cleared up. About 10 miles later on the flat and level interstate, it just dies. I slowly bring it to the side of the road and put on my hazards. Engine is flatlined and the screen is displaying the usual "Low Oil Pressure/Check Charging System".

I turned the key off and back on and I attempted to restart it, but it just cranks. I grabbed my code reader and pulled the codes and I got:

p0351
p0352
p0353
p0354
p0355
p0356
p0357
p0358

Which is basically a failure for all coilpacks. I, as you can guess, am getting no spark. I was able to check the ignition relay in the PDB (power distrubution box) under the hood. Are there any fuses or other suggestions for directions to head on this issue? Any help is appreciated.

Also, does this year have a Fail safe mode?

Hey Guys, got it figured out after I was able to do some troubleshooting on the truck. So what happened is Coil #5 had shorted internally and was blowing Fuse #38 (Coild on Plug) in the Power Distrubution Box under the hood.

I replaced the fuse and made it a mile when it popped again. I unplugged Cylinder #5 Coil becuase it was reading a misfire, and was able to limp it home on 7 cylinders. I replaced the Coil and its all running great again.

Hopefully this will help someone out in the future.

Thanks for following up and posting the solution. Nice work and glad you got it running again. This will certainly help others who experience the same symptoms.

Appreciate follow up for the final fix. I have a p0353, and now understand the last digit (3) is for that particular cyl, like a misfire code.

I threw codes p0351,p0352,p0353 after 2002 died at 70mph. No spark to any cylinder. It was a blown #38 (coil on plug fuse).

Yeah, it made it more confusing then it should have been. Gave me codes for 1-3. Foolishly, I assumed 4-6 was OK and replaced coil pack. Still no spark on 1-3 so I checked 4-6. No spark there either. ..... Long story short. Don't assume, we all know that and yet we do sometimes.
Sudden failure like mine. Check fuses. May save you a buck or two.
