1991 Ford Explorer Sport
We're talking actual real life out the door pricing. With the 91 starting to head in the opposite direction of the maintenance cost/vehicle value, I am considering getting a new Sport.

I've priced them online and looked at the lots. Saw one yesterday (fully loaded with no sunroof) for $30k. Next to it was a fully loaded Explorer (non-sport) for $33k, so I am having a hard time justifying the sport but thats what I like.

What has everyone paid (out the door) for there 2001 - 2002 Sports?

I'd also like to hear if anyone has had any problems with the 5 speed automatic.

When we bought our '99, we looked at some sports and they averaged about 5-10k less than the 4 doors. I would think you would be able to pick one up around 20-24k, 30k sounds WAY too much to me.

i got a premuim sport 2002 with no sunroof, (i now wish i did get one) for around 21,500

Really! Wow, thats great. Not sure why the 2002 I saw was priced at $30k. It had all the options (leather, 4X4, fog lights, tow hooks, etc) but no sunroof.

29k for mine I believe, but it has everything with it, I will get my sticker out when I get home tonight and list the crap

Yes, please do. I am curious to see the difference between yours and kingsleysurf's Explorer.

I went out to kingsleysurf's website and that is the same one I saw at the dealer(fogs, running boards, wheels) except different color.

kingsleysurf,

Could you list all your options as well?

Yes the 5 speed auto in my 98 XLT (its the 5r55e) was replaced at 74980 miles. Granted it was slightly abused when I took a 2wd mudding :-D (only did that twcie though) and I don't know how it was driven before we got it at 42xxx miles. A sprag clutch is what broke in it. Our Extened Service Plan covered it so we got a factory remanufactured tranny from Ford for 100 bucks.

i looked at 2000 sport b/f buying my 4 door. definately at least 5k less expensive. i don't think there is that many factory optins to get a price up to 30?

definately go to one of the websites to get invoice pricing & fair market pricing & check out what you really should be paying. the sticker on my 2000 5.0 XLT, 4 dr, leather, roof, mach, etc...was just under 34k. i told the dealer i would pay 3% over invoice or go somewhere else. it ended up being 29 and change or something like that.

enjoy & have fun.

I just used ford.ca (canada) website to price out a fully loaded sport and got $38,235 can which is about $26,000 US, this is with every option - I don't see how any dealer can charge above list price by that much.

i didnt get 4x4 nor leather

As Paul mentioned above, your best resource is the Internet. There are many sites that you can 'Build and Price' a new vehicle that will tell you MSRP and invoice prices, Ford.com included. Don't pay anything more then $100 over invoice, there are plenty of dealers that will do a hundred dollar deal. You just have to make the effort to find them and be prepared to walk out of the dealerships that won't.
