I just purchased a 2002 Explorer XLS which has the stock radio and cassette player in it. I hope someone knows hoe to remove the radio so I can replace it with a CD player. The dealer is currently researching it for me but maybe someone here already knows. Thanks in advance.

does it have 2 little holes on the left and 2 more on the right. if so then you need DIN removal tools. you can pick up a set at wal-mart for under $10. all you do is push in til it clicks, then pull the radio out. good luck

No it doesn't have the holes. Ford changed the format for the way they install the radio. I had the glove box off and it looks as if it just snaps off but I want to be sure so not to break anything. The dealer says his instructions say there are two screws holding the radio in but doesn't tell him how to take the trim off. Go figure.

just start at the top of the plastic where the radio is, use something to get under it and give it a yank. it will unclip at the top then you can unhook the rest with a little pull.
The holes in the radio are gone. they use 2 brackets with screws to hold the radio to the car. Its an easy uninstall. Oh and they don't make a dash kit for it yet. I used a mustang dash kit with the top notched for my 2002 explorer. looks and fits good. Good luck and let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thanks. I used the kit from my 1999 explorer with a little black tape and it fit perfectly.

Thanks from me also!!
