Hey guys recently I bought a 2002 mercury mountaineer (glorified explorer). It has the 4.6 vin W v8 and AWD. As stated on the title I have a transmission fluid leak that seems to be coming from the transmission cooler lines. I've searched the forum and couldnt find much. I'm not sure whether it's the rubber hoses or the line itself but the steel line has some rust. Also the rubber hoses are coated with fluid also which gives me an idea that it may be leaking also.

So my question is it possible to make my own lines and hoses and if so what sizes do I need? There is an odd connector between the steel line and hoses and I'm unsure if that will make a problem with making my own lines. Much help appreciated!

It might be the cooler itself leaking. Mine did and it was kind of a pain to replace since the fan, a bunch of plastic, all the hoses and several fittings must be removed before you can get to the cooler. I took the rubber hoses off the cooler rather than try to split the line, then used fuel injection clamps to secure the existing lines to the new cooler. Replacement coolers may be found on Amazon or EBay for about $130. HTH
