Hey everyone, I am new to the forum and desperately seeking all of your expertise!!! Here's the issue: I have a 2002 explorer xlt. We purchased it used in 02/09....should've done the research!!!

We noticed some slipping in the transmission almost immediately but when brought back to the dealer "nothing was wrong with it". That continued for months and now here we are. At first it slipped when the engine was cold. The next change was it slipped if you had to break hard and then try to continue. A little over a week ago the o/d light started to blink detecting a transmission failure and then the service enging light came on a few days later. Diagnostic testing revealed error code P0755 shift solenoid B. The only part we could find was transmission shift solenoid from Napa so we purchased it. Now the trouble is locating the thing in the transmission. We don't want to keep removing parts that we don't have to for fear of damaging something.......please help!! I can't find diagrams anywhere and believe me I've looked!!! this is our only family vehicle so without it we are basically screwed!

Welcome to this forum! I've renamed, and moved your thread to the transmission section. Your 5R55W has a solenoid block, and does not contain individual solenoids like the 5R55E transmission. These blocks tend to act up around 60K miles. you could get another one from WWW.800700Tran.Com. Check the sticky threads in this section for more information.

thanks, that's what we were afraid of since we already bought "the solenoid"...what I don't understand is why would the computer and napa tell us to replace only one when that's not possible. We had the solenoid pack in our hands for a while just inspecting and comparing to the individual we had purchased but couldn't imagine that pack opening for one by one replacement. So the shift solenoid B is in that pack?

also we weren't even sure how to determine which speed/model transmission we even had! We are definitley engine people but with not trusting these backyard shops around here we figured that we would give it a shot.....

ok so I wanted to thank you for your help...we changed the solenoid pack and added transmission fluid and the shifting is GREAT.....

today we went into a store and came out the gauges on the dash went nuts and were then fine but when we came out of the next store the batter was dead....would this have anything to do with the recent repair and or how do you check the altenator on these? is it as simple as removing the batt cable to see if it still runs like the older cars or is there something more complex? i'm hoping it's the batt not the alt.

Don't do the battery cable thing with your truck, you could damage your electronics.

Use multimeter. You should get about 14volts at the battery teminals when engine is running and something like 12.88 when engine is off.

I don't have one of those meters but we have the battery on a charger and it's taking foever to charge if it's charging at all so cross our fingers that it's the batt.....if no any ideas on how to change the alt? it seems very buried in there!!!

Take it to autozone or pepboys and they will put a meter on your truck for free.

You have a v8?
