2002 XLT
I'm new here but this looks like the best place to answer my question. I have an '02 XLT with what I hope isn't a big transmission problem. It works fine when you put it drive, shifts through all gears. When your stopped and shift it into any other gear 3rd, 2nd, or 1st it is actually in high gear. It has no power and accelerates slowly. Doesn't shift because it is already in high gear. Does anyone have any ideas? I just don't want it to grow into a major problem. Just looking around I do see a lot of posts from people with various transmission trouble. Is this the trucks weak link?
The truck is 4wd with no dipstick transmission.

Truck has 60k miles and no the transmission has not been serviced. The manual says it is not serviceable and I also checked with a dealer and he confirmed that it is non serviceable and does not require changing the fluid.

I didn't service mine and it blew at about 110K miles. Missed gears and a flashing overdrive light. $3000 later the dealer here in So. Md said it should have been serviced every 30K miles with a flush. I didn't believe him but after reading the Owner's Manual Service Interval booklet it does say so. Check it out because my son-in-laws '05 started acting up at about 29K miles. I was pretty disapointed but have to blame myself to a point. The newer electronic transmissions are all going that way. My '07 Mercedes ML has no dip stick and needs dealer attention every 30K too. Good luck!

The solenoid blocks on the 5R55W tend to act up around 60k miles. Borland has a thread on replacing the solenoid block. There is a sticky thread in the transmission section called the 5R55W fluid fill. It has instructions on how to check the fluid level, and refill it if necessary.
