When it is about 20 deg or colder I hear a high whistling noise under the hood. It gets louder as the vehicle accelerates. If I step off the gas it stops then starts again as I accelerate. This morning it was 0 to -5 deg and it seemed to whistle while I was driving on the highway to work. When the vehicle warms up it seems to go away. The belt and tensioner along with the fan pulley have been replaced.
Thanks in advance for any help.

My 2002 does the same thing in the cold temps. I only noticed it when it was warming up. I don't get to drive it (wifes', ya know what I mean), but honestly even when I do, my hearing isn't the best. Haven't complained to the dealer yet either. Was the fan pulley/belt a dealer fix? I'd be interested in what you find out. I'm going to do a bit of investigating myself.

Have a 2002 Mountaineer and have the same problem. I thought that I was imagining this. So Iam not crazy. Interested to see if anyone knows the sulution to this problem

Our '02 has it too. Its a real loud buzzing/whining noise. And so far its only when its real cold out, and it goes away once it warms up. It also seems to get louder when reving/accelerating.

Isn't this just the vaccum lines to the auto temp control unit? Thats what I thought was making the sound in mine.

Does the 2002 xlt have the auto control temp on it as standard ?My buddy has the Eddie Bauer with auto temp controls. If it was the vacuum line was it fixed to remedy the situation?
