I am trying to install the Ford factory skid plate kit that is designed for a 2001-2003 2WD Explorer Sport (2-dr). The instructions show frame rails with open "C" channels and mine has closed box sections. The instructions also indicate a 1999 model application, however there is no text in the instructions, just a series of sketches.
The kit includes speed nuts and bolts for a transfer case skid plate and a fuel tank skid plate. There are pre-drilled holes in my frame that correspond to the transfer case skid plate locations, and I was able to tap those and get that skid plate installed. Needless to say, that skid plate is pointless since my vehicle does not have a transfer case.
The fuel tank skid plate is supposed to attach to 2 crossmembers. It looks like the rear crossmember will work, however there is NO crossmember in front of the fuel tank. I will be talking to Ford soon!
Has anyone dealt with this situation? Thanks for any help offered.
