2003 Ford Ranger XLT new member

Hi There. I just purchased a (very) used 2003 Ranger and have begun to fix it up a bit. I had a small miss when stopped and in Drive and have replaced the plugs and plug wires. It seemed to help but the miss is still there but to a lessor extent. I then put Injector Cleaner in the tank but have driven it very little since then to see if it works. If my miss at idle continues, I suspect that a compression test will be the next step. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I also have the door ajar light problem that I have seen on several threads here and will be trying the recommended fixes for that tomorrow. Lastly, the cruse control soft buttons on the steering wheel have cracked and are broken. Any suggestions on how to replace these would also be appreciated. This appears to be a great forum for shade tree mechanics like myself and I am glad to be aboard.

Welcome to the site. You could also try to toss in a new fuel filter if you haven't done this yet. It may help out.

Thanks so much for the fuel filter recommendations. That will be tomorrows project. The WD40 did fix the door ajar problem. I also hope to purchase the left side steering wheel cruse control module tomorrow and try to replace it.

Okay Gang I do need some help. I changed the fuel filter today and it was terribly nasty. However, now after changing the plugs, the plug wires, fuel injector cleaner in the tank, and the new fuel filter, the truck still idles rough in park and in gear. The truck is a 2003 ford ranger XLT with the 3.0L V6 flex fuel engine and it has 200,000 miles on it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
