2003 UR Explorer
Hi, I'm new here, but not new to the explorers on my 3rd one now.
I live in Australia and have a 2003 UR explorer V6 4L build date April 03 with 160,000 kms, (100k miles approx)
My trans is not making 3rd gear...it shifts to all gears smooth with no problem.
I had it plugged in and 2codes came up.
PO745-line pressure control solenoid.
PO733-gear 3 incorrect ratio.
The trans shop said without even thinking about it that I have a broken band and a solonoid fault, and will cost you $2750 to repair, or $5500 to rebuild.
I think this is rubbish.
After reading all the thread on this sort of fault, I know the solonoids are a problem etc, and feel that the incorrect ratio code is directly linked to the pressure control fault. Am I thinking correct?
The main problem is firstly there an imported car here, and I live up in the tropics in a small city and only have 4 transmission specialists. So they tend to charge what they want as its a captive audience here.
I can replace the solonoid myself no problems, but cant find any info if it is a solonoid block or individual etc....
Any help is really appreciated.
Many thanks for listening to my woes. Nick

Thanks for that. Will give it a go.

The servo bore fix most likely will not resolve the issues you are experiencing. You should probably start with replacing the fluid, filter, and solenoid block. The latest revision part number for the block is 9L2Z-7G391-A. They can be had for $300 at a dealer here in the States.
