My wife's 2003 XLT has a vibration that only occurs at highway speeds of 60+. It is not your usual road "noise" or unbalanced wheel vibration. Vehicle is steady as rock, yet there is a what I will call a "resonation" vibration that can be felt through the front seats.

Anyone have this occur on thier 2003?? Thinking it is a driveshaft index problem or a bad gear. Car is equipped with 3:55s.

Help me out .... Thanks !

Have you had the wheels balanced just to make sure? Unbalanced wheels react with every vehicle differently and create different vibrations. Is the vibration recent or has it been there since you've had the truck.

Its also possble one of the driveshafts is out of round too.

I have this problem on my 2003 XLT as well(1850 mi.). Very hard to pinpoint where it is coming from. The vibration can be felt in the steering wheel as well as the seat. It begins at about 55 mph. The weird thing is, it doesn't get any worse if I speed up or slow down or take it out of overdrive. It will stop if I take my foot off the gas, after a few seconds. I took it back to the dealer. They say the truck needs to be broken in and it should stop after a few thousand miles. I also notice my steering wheel is ****ed to the right during most driving situations, but it doesn't pull in either direction. I do spend most of my time in the left lane, so the road crown may be to blame. It still annoys me though. Keep us posted with the outcome of this, as will I. Hopefully one of us will get this figured out.

Car already has 3000+ miles on it .... still there .... I am going to back to the dealer and see what they think .....

It has to be a bad gear or drive shaft ..... Once I get it in to be looked at I will post the dealer's findings, if any ..

It seems as if no matter what year of an Explorer you have you can get the infamous highway shakes. I guess we could call it a feature.
