My friend has an 04. His AC is blowing warm. When we hooked up the bottle to charge system, gauge was reading in the red, about 150psi on low pressure side. Then the compressor kicked on and pressure dropped down to about 25 and the compressor kicked right back off again. Took about 5 seconds. Then pressure went back in red and continued this pressure cycling with the compressor kicking on and off. Anyone know what would cause this?

150 😲
So what was the high side reading?
What was the outside air temperature?
Was the truck at idle, blower on high, set on max air and windows up?
How long was the ac on before checking pressure?

No reading on high side
92 outside
Idle and blower on high max air
Windows up
Blew for about 15 minutes before checking
Air never cooled down at all

At 92 degrees air temperature 25 psi is to low should be 40-45.
That 150 psi concerns me something isn't right. Check the pressure on the low side with the vehicle off it should be around air temperature maybe plus 5 degrees!

I have a complete gauge set that i bought from harbor freight last year! Just used it to add a 12oz can of R134A to my sport trac. 59 degrees coming out the center vent with low side pressure at 25 psi and compressor on not cycling. Added the can slowly till pressure at 43 psi ish dryer/accumulator sweating really good nice and cold. Air vent temperature dropped to 48 degrees I'm happy.

Hello, All of a sudden the AC stopped working. AC light comes on when I push the button, cab fan comes on. Compressor does not engage and the radiator cooling fans don't come on. Is there a checklist or some way to diagnose the problem? I believe there is good freon pressure.

What vehicle? Year, make, model
Believing and knowing there's good freon pressure are two different things!

Check this site out. Top notch info and trouble shooting.

On.my 2004 sport trac, It's only a winter truck when I can't drive my mustang gt. I drive it one week in July to get the sticker. But the condenser has a leak but it's cheaper to put a couple of $8.00 cans in it for a week.
Anyway when I did this in July same thing you said, my Walmart can of refrigerant and gauge when compressor doesn't cycle when can is attached, gauge goes well into the red, wait for it to cycle, pressure drops and that's when you push the refrigerant into system. Keep doing that and eventually enough refrigerant and it stops cycling and your gauge will read correctly and not bounce around.
