2004 Explorer XLT
Hi everyone, first time poster here. I have 2004 Explorer, 4WD, V6. As of now I have heat in the rear and no heat in the front. When I turn the knob to the right 3 positions, it blows out the floor and the defrost. When I turn the knob to the left, everything works like it should except for the no heat ever in the front vents. Any help with this issue would be much appreciated, thank you.

I would say it is your blend door motor, but I am not positive. Have you ever heard a clicking noise when you adjust the temp knob?

I read about that but ruled it out because I do not have the clicking noise

UPDATE:
I have been reading on here on possible solutions and checked some things to see if they are working.

1. Blend Door Actuator, stuck my arm in by the glove box and turn the knob from warm to cool and back and forth and can feel the lever moving back there so I know that it is not the problem and there is no clicking.

2. Vacuum leaks, switched the control knob to various positions and can see both actuators work and are connected to there proper levers.

It seems now that there is some heat coming from the front but still not like it should be and the vent controls are still NOT working properly.

I have read about the recirculation door by the fan blower that could be broke. Is that the door that you can see behind the glove box or is it somewhere inside the blower housing? If it is the one you can visibly see behind the glovebox then it is working fine because it moves when I change the vent control knob.

how many miles on your ex? maybe it's low on coolant or someone has put some stopleak in and blocked the heatercore? check the coolant lines going to the heater and see if they are warm. one more thing to look at, the blend door motor the controls the heat is by the accelerator pedal, actually it is right next to your right shin when you are sitting in the drivers seat. look up how the replace the blend door motor on this forum

93K on it right now. Yes the blend door motor is on the driver side, but there is a lever that is connected to the blend door itself on the passenger side. There is a thread on here "10 second blend door fix". This is how I found about this lever and when I turn the temp control knob I can feel the blend door is moving. As far as the heater core being plugged, would you still get heat in rear vents? I wouldn't think so but next time I get a chance I will feel the hoses leading to the heater core and feel if they are warm or not.

No clicking or thumping noises from behind the dash while temp control knob is set to heat or hot, then "blend door actuator" should be working okay for now.

If the air flow thru your dash vents is weak, yet the blower fan is set on high speed, most likely the air recirculation door has fallen down in the air box. No, you cannot visibly see this air recirc door until you remove it from the air box. Below is some info from me on how to remove the air recirc door and a link to a post from "Curtis" with photo's on how to remove it. Disregard the part of "Curtis" post on removing the blower motor, don't need to remove it.

Air Recirculation Door Fix

You could have a broken "air recirculation door". The air recirc door falls to the bottom of the air box that sits above the blower motor/fan and will block the flow of air to most dash vents. The air recirc door panel is approx 5 in High x 11 in Long and kind of flat. It's a very common problem, happened to me and I removed the air recirc door and now my air flow is great again. The air box is behind the glove box, go thru there to remove the air recirc door. Below is a link with photos to do this repair written by "Curtis". You only need to remove 4 screws (2 on the left side and 2 on the right side) to split open the air box. Do not remove the blower motor, not needed to do with this repair. Open the air box from the right end of it, this end opens the farthest and you should be able to see the air recirc door laying flat inside, it shouldn't be there. Try and pull the air recirc door panel out by the 5 inch narrow end using needle nose pliers, might have to turn it sideways to do this. Might have to fight with it to get it out, but it will come out. Once this door is removed, you will lose "Max AC" coldness, but still have AC, just not as frosty cold. Remember, this "may be" your problem, some of your description has the symptoms of it. Good luck.

sorry to say that I am stumped, I guess I am just lucky enough that just the blend boor motor broke on mine! I will ask at work tomorrow and see if I can get anything, exproblems my be onto it though.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will look at the recirculation door in a couple of days. I am in my treestand right now in a last chance effort to shoot a deer with my muzzleloader.

Good luck with the Whitetail hunt. I shot a load of deer and a few bucks with my camera this past week in my back yard. Just yesterday, I got a picture of two Bucks in the yard standing 10 feet from each other, one, the biggest buck and oldest(approx 6-7yrs old) who walks with a limp was a 9 pointer as of last week with 1 drop tine, but he broke the drop tine off since then and is back to a large 8 pointer. The base of his antlers are extremely thick showing his age. The other buck is younger and slightly smaller in size and I'm pretty sure he is either a 6 or 8 pointer.
