Hello all...I have become a member to find out information on improving my 2004 Explorer NBX. I have not found much info on this model and I am wondering if the issues I have are common to this model or explorers in general. An example, when I went to uhaul to rent a small moving trailer they refused to rent to me because I had an explorer. They said the explorer doesn't handle towing well. I also have issues with my brakes wearing out rather quickly and the vehicle lurches when in reverse. Lastly, my explorer doesn't make sharp turns well.

The reverse and towing issues I assume are related to the transmission. Is there an aftermarket fix to this? The brakes may just be the quality of the ford parts...once again...looking for recommendations on after market solutions.

Thanks in advance!
John

Welcome John!

Unfortunately, the morons at U-Haul won't rent to you because of the Firestone tire fiasco. Part of their lawsuit with Ford from years ago.

As for your other issues, you can apply any of the fixes here to your NBX, as it is merely a trim model, not a mechanical difference in vehicles. Any of the writeups/threads dealing with the same engine and drivetrain will apply to you Explorer.

The reverse thing sounds like it could be a transmission thing- do you get any flashing lights on your dash? What kind of brake pads are you running?

welcome
