Trying to find the rear compensator tie rods for the rear for 16 inch rims with 16mm tie rod end . For 15mm is to small and 17mm with out fitting is still to tall hits the rim .

So I'm in the market for a kinda smaller 4 door SUV. I recently had a kid and my current DD a lifted 92 F-250HD ext-cab 4x4 isn't the most practical vehicle for my wife as she's stuck in the back with my daughter and climbing behind seats and on the awful half bench. She's a trooper but she deserves a bit better. She has a 4 cyl/5 spd escape which is great but not stout enough for my liking as a DD.

;) then teh X. v8 4th gen with the 6r80 is nice and sturdy!

I agree with Fix4Dirt. The 2006-2010 three valve V8 Explorers and Mountaineers are reliable, get 20-21 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg mixed driving, tows 7,000 lbs., has side airbags, weighs nearly 5k lbs. so it holds its own in a typical accident, is easy to get in and out of, seats 6-7 people and they drive and perform nicely. If the engine and transmission in these have been well maintained they can last 200k-300k miles, or more. Try to find a 2009-2010 model as these received some updates to the V8 engines and a slightly stronger transmission.

Stay away from Explorers and Mountaineers with the 4.0L SOHC V6 engines. They have timing chain and guide issues that can destroy the engine and to replace all the chains and guides requires the engine to be pulled. Also, the V6s come with an unreliable transmission that can fail any time after 100k miles is reached. The typical cost of repair for these items is around $3,500 for the transmission and $4,000-$5,000 for a remanufactured engine. The two valve V8s in the 2002-2005 Explorers and Mountaineers are very reliable but they come with the same transmission as the 4.0L SOHC V6 so at least you are mostly limited to a transmission failure in these models.

yep, 94 hit the nail on the head!!!! if the 4th gens are a bit pricey though, the 2nd gen v8s are also a good choice, those things dont die! or a ohv 2nd gen with a manual, those also will be apololypse survivor 🤣 but imo the 4thgens are a great family vehicle
-safe
-somewhat ok gas mileage
-light offroad chops
- dead reliable with the v8
-good tow rig

plus, theyre nice and reliable, so when the kid is ready to drive (pending age of vehicle, and age of kid... though sometimes i sort of want those active safety features in LA at elast (i get my license soon!!)) but given price etc, theyre very safe!
