What do your plugs look like?

When does it "ping" the most?

If it is pinging running premium will only make it worse over time. Believe me, I have LOTS of experience with pinging, heh.

What engine do you have? If it's a 4.6, those things are so sensitive to pinging it's unbelievable. Try and use Seafoam or similar. That's usually will help with those. In fact, I would try that regardless of what engine it has. Also make sure you are not only trying a different octane fuel, but a different brand as well.

It usually starts pinging when I accelerate at about 3000 rpms

i have a 4.0 v6 i usually go to all different gas stations

A few of us have experienced a pinging/rattling noise with cheap oil filters. I know for a fact that if I go to the local cheapo oil place and get one of those white 'Service' chinese brand filters I will get an engine rattle about 2-2500 RPM.
