2004 Ford Explorer
Hey guys,

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer 4.0 SOHC, and it's been overheating for the past few days, I changed the heater hose and also the thermostat, it ran a bit better but began to overheat once again the next day. So while I was driving home, the truck made a loud pop, and began to sound really loud, it still starts and runs, but it's extremely loud now. I would really appreciate if I could find out any information about what's going on with it. Also the coolant gets low for some reason, even though I've filled it multiple times. Thanx again for reading this, and I hope that I can find out what's wrong because this is my only vehicle and means of transportation to work.

We cannot diagnose a problem as you describe it because it could be a hundred different things. Loud noise. Like hammerinmg noise with a hammer on something solid? A "Knock" in the engine, as from bearings or pistons? Or rather a grinding-type noise like a growl? If coolant gets low, is it leaking out somewhere, can you see a puddle underneath? If no leak, it may be burning in a cylinder along with the fuel, due to a water jacket to cylinder leak. Usually, that will cause boil-over quickly.

Or, could simply be bad bearing in the water pump, making all the racket, the leak usually occurs at the pump shaft, and is obviously visible underneath the vehicle. imp
