- 2004 Sport Trac
Last Wednesday, I was going to take my Sport Trac to the car wash, but as soon as I put it in reverse, it died. I got it to start again, drove it back and forth in the driveway a few times to see if it would die again, and it did, this time in drive. I tried to start it again and it just kept turning over, but wouldn't start. Each time I tried to start it, the check engine and charging system lights came on and stayed on.
I can hear the fuel pump running when the ignition switch is in the on position.
Last night, I got the alternator off, and had it tested at O'Reilly and Carquest this morning, and was told by both places that it was good. The guy at Carquest said that it could be my Ignition Control Module. I came back home, reinstalled the alternator and battery, then went to Sears and bought a OBD2 code reader and when I connect it, it displays a 0 and Yellow LED which, according to the manual, means that "some of the Monitors on the vehicle have not yet finished their diagnostic self-testing."
Is this a sign that the computer is fried, or did I simply erase any trouble codes that may have been on the computer when I disconnected the battery to remove the alternator? Any ideas about what might be the problem?
